Building bridges

In various stages of a career in education (whether you’re just starting or nearing retirement), one can feel lost, stuck, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or like they’re on repeat. Growing from years of exhaustion, developed fear, noise, overpacked schedules, stacked plates, lack of feedback, unclear direction, or change these “things” can become extra weights we don’t have to carry or bricks in a developing wall. These bricks or weights may feel like ways of protection at first, but they block our energy, sense of belonging, community engagement and support, and creativity. Carefully, purposefully, and gently I aim to break down these walls, unblock pathways, release the extra weight, and re-spark joy for teaching, education, and life-long learning.
I like to think of myself as a bridge builder.
Building bridges from where you are to where you want to be.

It is FINALLY HERE! I worked with Teachers in Their Power from the Fall of 2023-June 2024 on “The Great Teacher Power Up”. This was an opportunity for a teacher or team of teachers to receive a $3,000 grant plus personal professional development with myself and 2 others educational professionals to POWER UP their teaching. This included a classroom makeover, curriculum assistance and development, personal coaching sessions, and more. The documentary of our work is NOW OUT! You can check it out here!

the New Year Journal
The Holiday Season is a very full time of year, so the Journal will be returning in January. If you need some ways to find peace or a sense of settle amidst the baubles, twinkles, smiles, and snow, here are some of my favorite ways to find calm in December:
Get outside. No matter the weather. If it’s just walking to get your mail, great. Bottom line: breathe that fresh winter air.
Turn the lights on. I love decking our halls, windows, mantles, etc with twinkle lights, and it’s the absolute best turning them all on in the morning and around 4:00 in the evening. Make it a little ritual.
Go to bed earlier. If you can! Don’t get me wrong, I love staying up and watching a holiday flick, but going to bed earlier so I have time to read a little more of my book has been feeling really good lately.
Indulge in seasonal flavors! Try a seasonal latte, add peppermint to your hot cocoa, make a list of comfort foods or new seasonal recipes to try out this season: think soups, stews, slow cooking, roasted vegetables, warm sauces and dips.
Advent Calendars aren’t just for kids. I still find the little chocolates each day so fun (thank you mom for still sending these to us, haha!), but there are so many different types of Advent Calendars now! From small gifts, to wine treats, to soaps and scents - treat yourself to one and countdown to the holidays.
One of my favorite mindfulness activities is to pick 3 words for the season. I use these words as my compass for the holidays. There are some things we obviously cannot control, such as other people or more specifically, our kids: will they sleep if they stay out later, will they enjoy a new food or activity; will they throw a tantrum? Who knows! Another thing I can’t control is the weather: I live in NH it could rain or snow or be in negative temps or be a beautiful blue bird sky! But I can control my perspective and expectations. My words this season are: peace, joy, and merriment. I try to find a moment of peace daily (usually over coffee and early morning Christmas lights). Joy can be find in my son’s laughter or enjoyment of his holiday books (which he’s really into right now) and taking him with me to grab a holiday latte during the week or attending our library’s story time which has been reading books of the season. Merriment is finding time with friends and family to enjoy a glass of wine or festive cocktail, go for a snowy walk, or simply watch and laugh at a holiday classic such as Home Alone. Simple. Festive. Fun. Here for that.
